Ep. 173: Delete the Police
The cops, we should admit, are a necessary institution for maintaining capitalism. This is a good reason why leftists should be very clear about dismantling the institution of police in the same way we think about dismantling other capitalist institutions. We often discuss such institutions under the framework of CONTROL (public ownership), ALT (worker ownership), or DELETE (abolition). Police are firmly in the category of delete.
There is no governance structure, no reform measure, that can adequately transform such an odious institution born as slave catchers--literally serving the function of enforcing private property in the form of black bodies. This institution cannot be improved and it cannot be allowed to persist. DELETE THE POLICE.
