Ep. 140: Laying Down the Labor Law (Ft. Jeremy Gong & C.M. Lewis)
This week we're talking about labor law, an institution in many ways built for the bosses. But there is a lot of movement recently in this field. The recent AB5 victory in California--addressing the misclassification of employees as "independent contractors"--could potentially be just the beginning as Bernie Sanders and more recently (as in post-recording this episode...) Elizabeth Warren promulgate sweeping labor law reforms aimed helping working people and strengthening America's unions.
Jeremy Gong is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America in California’s East Bay and a leader on DSA’s campaign for Bernie Sanders. He recently wrote about California’s AB5 in Jacobin.
C.M. Lewis is a staff union representative for the Pennsylvania State Education Association and a member of the Strikewave editorial team. He recently did a two-part deep dive into Sanders’ Workplace Democracy proposal for Data for Progress.
