Ep. 90: The Future Without Prisons (W/ Brian Sonenstein & Kim Wilson)
The prison is an institution that is sustained by violence and justified by myths. On this episode, we're talking about the "radical imagination" required to build a society without such an institution. This week we're talking about prison abolition.
To guide us through this very broad topic are Brian Sonenstein and Kim Wilson, hosts of the Beyond Prisons podcast. Brian is a journalist (with a regular column in the Portland Phoenix) and a co-founder of Shadowproof.com. Kim Wilson has a Ph.D. in Urban Affairs and Public Policy from the University of Delaware, and aside from being an activist and podcast host, she is also an artist, whose work you can see at kimwilsonart.com. Their podcast focuses on all issues related to prison abolition, and we can't recommend it enough.
