Sometimes derided as a "conspiracy theory," the concept refers to things like preventing repairs or designing a product to cease functionality after a certain period in order to sustain demand for new products. It's an interesting concept that speaks to the dilemma of waste, sustainability, and market inefficiencies (CAPITALISM).
